Parker Silzer

The Simple and the Strange

The same old rabbits hearing the same old lullabies; but the lighting always changes as the trees move, and the sun and the atmosphere wage color wars, so you’ll have to incorporate the same lullaby and the new colors and the same rabbits. Most of you know the rabbits, some of you know the lullabies, the colors are mine.

This song used to have the lyrics, “I’ve been from New York to Tennessee and Californ-I-A, but I ain’t never heard ‘em sing like Lady Day.” But it’s not about Billie Holiday anymore. Well actually maybe it still kind of is. But I wouldn’t know personally.

Lyrics

The Simple and the Strange — Parker Silzer

You only hear me with your ears
Wish you could see you with my eyes
You have a holiness I love but
Damn you’ve got habits I despise, yeah

I could sit you down like a puppy dog
And try and make you change
But girl I’m running out of pretty things to say
It’s getting hard to sort the simple from the strange
Well are you always gonna be a word away?

Now I’m not saying I lost the feeling
But this destruction ain’t appealing
The things you think will make you shine
They all just seem to undermine you

I could sit you down like a puppy dog
And try and make you change
But girl I’m running out of pretty things to say
It’s getting hard to sort the simple from the strange
Well are you always gonna be a word away?

A moat surrounds
Your seaglass town

Your apologies are piling up
Like some perverse refrain
And it’s looking like your never gonna change
So when you end up
The one who got away, you can
Blame it on the simple and the strange
