Anthrax in the Mail
(A Love Song)
“Anthrax in the Mail (A Love Song),” is truly a song about love. You know, that special kind of love, where one person becomes a bit too obsessed with the other, then the other person files a restraining order and blocks the first person from their life, then that person turns desperate and starts taking drastic action, including, but not limited to, sending the other person anthrax in the mail. Yes. That kind of love.
While this song began somewhat autobiographically, it took me to new places I never could have imagined. What originally began as a modest MUSC 0450 assignment eventually evolved into a piece of epic proportions, evoking emotions I didn’t know I possessed. Don’t be fooled by its saccharine demeanor—a dark message lies beneath the bubble-gum pop chords and the tinkling of the piano keys.
Anthrax In The Mail (A Love Song) — David Brown
Just trying to let go slowly
Just trying not to fall
Just trying not to wait up for a phone that you won’t call.
But I’ve got a secret plan
It’s sure to never fail
You broke my heart and called me names,
Which is why I’m sending you anthrax in the mail.
Oh, anthrax in the mail, baby, anthrax in the mail
Hopefully one day you won’t live to tell the tale
Of anthrax in the mail
Hope you don’t think it’s creepy
Hope that you understand
Hoping that when you open it some lands upon your hand
Woah, people tried convincing me
They said that you’re not worth it, but they can’t see
I’ll never find peace…
Until you open up your anthrax in the mail, baby, anthrax in the mail
Hopefully one day you won’t live to tell the tale
Of anthrax in the ma-a-ail!
