Summer Swells

I finally finished lyrics to a song that sat on the shelf for over three years. The full band adaptation of this song has a great feel, while is still simple and organic. I shall let the song speak for itself, as it has a lot to express, more so than just the words on a paper. Foghat rules.

Lyrics

Summer Swells — Doug Berman

I make my way to your island again
You say, “This is the weekend, baby, but where do we begin?”
Cause we’ve fooled around, and I’ve doubled down
And lost the ties that bind my mind
So this is the last time you try

Ten thousand waves break on these shores each day
And they sculpt the coastline
And slowly erode these mountains into sand
But I was thinking of something more

The crescent moon speaks to you and you alone through grinning teeth
Yeah, he’s just smiling back at me in disbelief
That I heard all his nightly plans
For this tug-of-war between the sea and land

All these waves break on these shores each day
And they sculpt the coastline
Slowly erode these mountains into sand
But I was thinking of something more:
Does it ever hurt the waves? Because from what I’ve seen it does
As they retreat and reform in these summer swells
We know these summer swells so well
And I think I’ve grown enough to know
These summer flings can fill your sails
But they’ll never be your own
